The Donna T. Darrien Memorial Foundation Scholarship

Since 2001 the Donna T. Darrien Memorial Foundation For Sickle Cell, Inc has awarded scholarships to students living with the disease and children of parents with the disease pursuing higher education at an accredited university, college, or technical/vocational school.

To be eligible for consideration, the individual must:
  • document his/her (or the parent's) sickle cell disease diagnosis
  • reside in the State of New Jersey
  • attend, be accepted or applied to an accredited university, college, or technical/vocational school
  • have a GPA of 2.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale

Note: Prior awardees may reapply if all requirements continue to be met.
To apply:

  • Applicant must complete the official application form (below) and submit all required documentation as one packet.
  • Submit a sickle cell disease confirmation form.
  • Submit most recent official transcript.
  • Submit letter of acceptance from the prospective post-secondary school.
  • Submit a personal written essay not to exceed 1,000 words and include how you face your challenges, your educational plans, and your career objectives.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from non-family members (one must be from a school official, e.g. teacher or guidance counselor).
  • Submit proof of residency (utility bill, driver’s license, other).
  • Submit a clean and appropriate current picture.
Application Deadline is April 30th.
